Replacing a working appliance? Request pickup for reuse before arranging disposal. Appliance removal or haul-away means collecting the appliance from your property. Recycling is a different option to investigate when equipment is no longer suitable for use. Our service gives working and reusable appliances priority.
Start with a qualifying pickup request for a working washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer or stove. A single nonworking appliance does not qualify for our free service. If you need disposal for a nonqualifying item, check the official local disposal resources below for acceptance rules and any fees.

Dishwashers are accepted only with two or more major working appliances. Microwaves are accepted only with another qualifying major appliance.

For condos and apartments, send floor level, elevator arrangements, loading instructions, parking limits and the carrying distance from the unit to the loading point.

If an appliance does not qualify for our pickup, Portland residents can compare the city-contracted bulky-waste pickup program with Metro transfer-station options. Portland publishes a trip fee plus per-item charges, and coolant-containing appliances such as refrigerators and freezers are handled differently from washers, dryers, stoves and other standard appliances.
The City of Portland's current bulky-waste page lists an $18 pickup fee per trip, plus $6 per washer, dryer, dishwasher or stove/oven. Refrigerators and freezers are listed in the coolant-containing category at $51 per item. The City says customers should contact their garbage company for a cost estimate and pickup date before setting items out.
Portland's current guidance says customers should call at least a week in advance to arrange bulky-waste pickup and should not set items at the curb until the scheduled day.
Renters should work through the landlord or garbage-service account holder. Apartment residents should confirm the property's large-item disposal process with management.

Metro Central Transfer Station in Portland also accepts large metal appliances. Metro lists metal dishwashers, microwaves, water heaters, stoves, ovens, washers and dryers in its appliance category; coolant-containing appliances such as refrigerators and freezers have separate handling and fees.
Metro lists the facility at 6161 NW 61st Ave., Portland, OR 97210, with general-public hours of 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily. Metro currently lists coolant appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers at $30 per appliance, with a limit of five coolant appliances per person per day.

Portland is a core operating market. Qualifying requests can be handled through local pickup coverage and, when appropriate, through independent appliance buyers, repair/refurbishment businesses, resellers and pickup partners.
Working and reusable refrigerators, washers, dryers, freezers and ranges may have more value through repair or resale than disposal. Photos, tested condition and access details help us review that path before scheduling.
Portland is a core operating market for both residential requests and recurring appliance sources. Working equipment from rentals, apartment turns, senior communities, hotels, installers and businesses can be reviewed through the same local pickup and reuse network.
