If the Refrigerator Does Not Qualify for Our Free Route
The City of Sacramento operates a separate appliance and e-waste collection program for eligible residential solid-waste customers. The City currently states that customers can schedule two free appliance/e-waste appointments per calendar year and that up to two appliances can be collected per appointment.
Current City instructions say appliances should be placed in the street, visible and accessible, no earlier than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment. Refrigerators must be free of food or food residue. Tenants in multifamily properties with five or more units that are not serviced by City solid waste are directed to their landlord, property manager or commercial hauler.

Can a single working refrigerator qualify for free pickup?
Yes. A single working or strongly reusable refrigerator can be submitted for review. Acceptance still depends on the exact address, condition, safe access, local demand and route availability.
Can you pick up a refrigerator that is not cooling?
You can submit it, but a single nonworking refrigerator generally does not qualify for the standard free-pickup route. Give the true cooling condition so the correct option can be reviewed.
Should I put the refrigerator at the curb first?
No. Keep a working or reusable refrigerator protected until our pickup is confirmed. If you use the City program instead, follow the City's current placement instructions for the scheduled appointment.
